The Shipibos and Conibos were in the past two different groups, but today, due to intermarriage between them, they are cponsidered one ethnic group.

The Shipibo-Conibo native group belongs to the Panoan language family of peruvian amazon, and is located in the states of Ucayali, Loreto, Huanuco and even Madre de Dios. Most of them live around Pucallpa city.

They call themselves as Joni people, and their population at present is around 30,000 people.

One of the main cultural features of Shipibo-Conibo people is the artistic style of their geometric designs which are used in pots, clothing, body and many other things.

The Shipibo-Conibos traditionally are animists and fearful of the spirit world. Until now shamans have an important presence in their culture.*

Los Shipibos y los Conibos fueron en el pasado, dos grupos nativos diferenciados, pero hoy día, debido a los vínculos matrimoniales entre ellos, son considerados un solo grupo étnico.

La comunidad nativa Shipibo-Conibo pertenece a la familia lingüística Pano de la amazonía peruana, y está localizada en los departamentos de Ucayali, Loreto, Huanuco en incluso Madre de Dios. La mayoría de ellos viven alrededor de la ciudad de Pucallpa.

Ellos se llaman a sí mismos como Joni, y su población actual es de aproximadamente 30,000 personas.

Una de las principales características culturales de los Shipibo-Conibos es el estilo artístico de sus diseños geométricos que son utilizados en vasijas, vestimentas, cuerpo y muchas otras cosas más.

Los Shipibo-Conibos son tradicionalmente animistas y temerosos del mundo espiritual. Hasta ahora los shamanes tienen una presencia importante en su cultura.*
